Triflex Waterproofing Demonstration for Vietjet Hangar Roof at Long Thanh International Airport

Demonstration project: Triflex waterproofing trial for hangar roof

VIVABLAST recently carried out a Triflex waterproofing demonstration project for the Vietjet aircraft hangar roof at the Long Thanh International Airport development in Vietnam. The demonstration aimed to evaluate the suitability of Triflex liquid-applied waterproofing systems for complex industrial roofing structures and critical detailing areas.

The hangar roof is designed with a large curved dome geometry, formed by multiple interconnected metal sheet panels. This architectural configuration creates numerous joints, overlaps, and transitions—areas that are particularly vulnerable to water ingress if not properly waterproofed.

The demonstration focused on these critical zones to assess how Triflex performs in real site conditions, where roof geometry, material interfaces, and structural movement place high demands on waterproofing performance.

Addressing waterproofing challenges on curved metal hangar roofs

Aircraft hangars are classified as critical infrastructure, where roof leakage can lead to:

  • Damage to sensitive equipment and aircraft
  • Accelerated corrosion of metal roof components
  • Increased maintenance costs and operational disruptions

For curved metal roofs, conventional sheet or membrane systems often struggle to adapt to complex shapes and joint details. Any weakness at metal seams or penetrations can become a long-term source of leakage.

The Triflex liquid-applied system was selected for the demonstration due to its ability to fully bond to metal substrates, form a seamless waterproofing layer, and maintain flexibility over time—key requirements for curved hangar roof structures.

Triflex ProDetail: Reliable waterproofing for complex roof details

Following the successful demonstration, attention was directed toward Triflex ProDetail, a solution specifically engineered for waterproofing complex detailing areas.

Triflex ProDetail is particularly effective for:

  • Metal sheet joints and overlaps
  • Roof penetrations
  • Curved and irregular roof geometries
  • Areas subject to movement and thermal expansion

The system is based on PMMA technology, allowing rapid curing and seamless application directly on site. Its high elasticity enables it to accommodate structural movement without cracking, while its strong adhesion ensures long-term waterproofing performance.

For the Vietjet hangar roof at Long Thanh International Airport, Triflex ProDetail provides a durable solution to protect vulnerable joint areas, reduce the risk of water ingress, and mitigate long-term corrosion of metal roof components.

Long-term protection for critical aviation infrastructure

The application of Triflex ProDetail supports the long-term performance of hangar roofing systems by:

  • Minimizing leakage risks at critical joints
  • Reducing maintenance frequency and repair costs
  • Extending the service life of metal roof structures
  • Ensuring reliable weather resistance under harsh environmental conditions

This approach aligns with the operational requirements of aviation facilities, where durability, reliability, and minimal downtime are essential.
